Hermes MCP Integration

Connect Hermes Agent to ThorData SERP MCP to give your agent access to real-time, structured public search results. ThorData can support web research, news monitoring, local business discovery, product and price research, SEO visibility checks, and other SERP-backed workflows.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure that you have:

• A ThorData account with an active SERP API key.

• A Hermes Agent installation that can add an MCP server.

• Access to the Hermes Agent configuration file.

Get your ThorData API key

Sign in to the ThorData dashboard and create or copy a SERP API key.

Keep this key private. It is used in the MCP server URL and consumes quota from your ThorData SERP API plan.

Open the Hermes configuration file

Open the Hermes configuration file:

• Linux, macOS, or WSL2: ~/.hermes/config.yaml

• Native Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\hermes\config.yaml

If the file does not exist, run hermes once to complete the initial setup, then open the file again.

Add ThorData SERP MCP

Add one of the following entries to your MCP client configuration, replacing YOUR_USER_TOKEN with your own token.

Method 1: Recommended — use the header

Suitable for MCP clients that support custom headers.

Use this method when headers are not supported.

Use only one method. If your configuration already includes mcpServers, add only the thordata entry beneath it. Do not create a second mcpServers section or replace existing server entries.

Verify the connection

Start a new Hermes Agent session and send a request such as:

Use ThorData SERP to find the five most recent news articles about AI agents.
Return the title, publisher, publication time, source URL, and a one-sentence summary for each result.

When the connection is working, Hermes Agent should call a ThorData search tool and return live results with source URLs. The exact available tools and result types depend on your ThorData plan and the selected search engine.

Use ThorData SERP to find news published in the last 24 hours about OpenAI.
Group the results by topic and include the original article URLs.

Use ThorData SERP to check the Google search results for "AI agent platform" in the United States.
Identify whether example.com appears in the organic results and report its ranking position.

What ThorData SERP MCP can help Hermes Agent do

ThorData SERP MCP provides structured, real-time public search data across supported engines and result types, including:

Ask Hermes Agent to preserve source links and clearly state the search country, language, freshness window, and other query conditions when they matter to the result.

Troubleshooting

ThorData tools do not appear

Confirm that the URL contains a valid ThorData API key, the YAML indentation is valid, and the thordata_serp entry is nested under mcp_servers. Save the configuration and restart Hermes Agent.

Authentication or quota error

Create a new SERP API key in the ThorData dashboard if the existing key is invalid or disabled. Check your plan and remaining quota before retrying the request.

The search result is empty

An empty result is not necessarily an integration error. Try a broader query, another country or language, or a different supported result type.

A requested search type fails

Some search types require specific parameters, such as a location, date range, image URL, or target domain. Ask Hermes Agent to use a supported TalorData SERP result type and provide the required query conditions.

Security and usage notes

• Do not paste your ThorData API key into prompts, shared screenshots, public repositories, or client-side code.

• Use ThorData only for public search result data and comply with applicable laws, platform terms, and your internal data-use policies.

• Search results are time- and location-sensitive. Keep source URLs and query conditions in reports that require traceability.
